Since 1646.

Køge Apotek was founded on 30 August 1646 — first in Brogade 12, from 1665 on its present corner of Brogade and the square. The house was finished in 1686, altered around 1800 and again in 1865, and has been a listed building since 1919: eight bays of brick, a warm façade under a red tile roof, the gilded KØGE APOTEK over the old carriage gateway — look up at the doorway for the two swans facing each other. Behind it runs a long half-timbered wing.

It is still the town’s pharmacy: Køge Torvets Apotek, prescriptions and over-the-counter medicine across the counter, with medicine consultations, inhaler checks and repeat prescriptions, and delivery on weekday afternoons.

For visitors the branch matters most. Køge Stations Apotek, opposite the station in Rådhusstræde, is open every day of the year, Sundays and holidays included — it is the town’s duty pharmacy when the square is closed, and behind its counter a robot fetches the medicine.

A third counter in the centre belongs to another house: Køge Løve Apotek on Vestergade, by Kvickly. For every pharmacy in the municipality — four owners, nine counters and two pick-up points — see the map.
