The blue nail.

In the late 1800s the ground floor was a basket maker’s shop for dolls and prams; in 1920 the first floor became club rooms, and in February 1929 Ida and Peter Sivertsen opened Centralcafeen. In 1949 Jenny and Aksel Johnsen painted the facade blue, and from that day the restaurant was called “Den blå negl” — the blue nail. In the mid-1950s it became Centralhotellet; the rooms were renovated in 2019, and Mitzi and Sophie Hammersholt have run it since 2023.

Sixteen rooms today — six doubles with their own bathroom, the rest sharing — a free 24-hour snack bar with coffee, tea and fruit instead of breakfast, and 20 % off at a bakery in town. Behind the house a garden with three terraces runs down to Køge Å. The market is outside the front door on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
