The beer got here first.

Halifax has poured Braunstein’s Køge beer since its first restaurant opened in Copenhagen in 2007. In April 2018 the burgers followed the beer home: two floors in Strædet, next to the cinema, 165 seats inside and thirty on the terrace, which moves out onto the square when the weather allows. The joke at the opening was that a pipe straight from the brewery would have been simpler.

The menu is a map. City-named burgers from Copenhagen — cheddar, chipotle mayo, pickled gherkins, 109 DKK — to Lone Star, two patties and double cheddar at 149, by way of Liverpool with a fried egg and HP Sauce, and Berlin, the vegan one on a pretzel bun. Everything from scratch: the buns, the aioli, the rösti. In the photograph, the pretzel bun with the egg on top.
